About us
Master of Arts in Interaction Design and Interactive Art(MA IxDIA) is a unique interdisciplinary program that focuses on creating interactive applications and objects as part of a designed user experience. Our program provides artists studio and fabrication spaces, courses in emerging methods, contemporary art and theory, an engaged faculty and access to student research grants and mentorship.
We emphasize both the creative and technical aspects of current and emerging technologies, and how they can be used to deliver compelling content in an interactive form. Integrating art, computer science, psychology, user experience (UX) and human-centered design (HCD). We incorporate design thinking strategies to create interactive applications and objects that provide a well-designed user experience.
What to expect
This Master's program is a two-year degree program. Most coursework is offered in the late afternoon.
During the first year, students develop a theoretical foundation in interaction design, enhance their creative skills, and learn to work effectively in teams.
During the second year, small teams of students with various backgrounds and talents create innovative, professional-quality interactive projects. Ideas for group projects can originate from students, faculty, or external sources.
Many of CSU Eastbay's student projects have won national and international awards.
A standout experience during my time at CSUEB the FAA design challenge. The challenge was to create a design concept to help air traffic managers monitor and control air traffic. Over four months, Professor Pollock dedicated his time and expertise to helping me and my cohort navigate this complex task. Our collective effort was successful, as we were selected as one of the five finalists in the nation, presenting our innovative solution in Washington D.C. - F. Agusta
